PFAS (per and polyfluorinated alkyl substances) detailed soil and groundwater assessment, water survey, borewater testing, Bathurst Regional Airport Precinct
The airport site previously used Aqueous Film-Forming Foam (AFFF) products in their firefighting activities dating back to the 1950s. The use of these chemicals signified a potential issue with Per and Polyfluorinated Alkyl Substances (PFAS) contamination on the airport site and the surrounding rural residential setting.
The airport was added to the NSW EPA PFAS Investigation program to identify impacts of legacy PFAS at the airport and on surrounding rural properties.
Sullivan Environmental Sciences were engaged by Bathurst Regional Council to investigate the PFAS issue by conducting a detailed sampling program of onsite and offsite soils, sediments, biota, groundwater and drinking water bores. The results were used to examine potential exposure pathways to assess health risks to onsite workers, offsite residents and ecological receptors that could be exposed to PFAS. All reports were technically reviewed and approved by the NSW PFAS Technical Advisory Group.
